In my writing and editorial work I specialize in prose that clearly conveys highly abstract or technical ideas to target readerships with different backgrounds. What people describe as "writing clearly" is really a matter of communicating effectively. This requires the writer to think about how best to put ideas into words, of course. But I think it is just as important to think about the reader, and the knowledge and expectations s/he brings to the communicative exchange.

This is a blog post on whether you should avoid believing something that doesn't do you any good, even if you have evidence that it is true. It is a summary for general audiences of a research article published in the academic journal Ergo (co-written with David DiDomenico and Kenji Lota).
